DDS80 and FlashDrives
I took the plunge and bought the DDS80 last week. It’s been a rocky road. I have really mixed feelings about it and I will be discussing all my experiences with it in my blog.
My primary issue right now is that I purchased two 32GB Sandisk Cruzer flashdrives that won’t work with the DDS80. The Cruzer with U3 flash drives come with a PC-only program called U3 that manages files and apps on the drive. It’s kind of cool I guess but unnecessary since I’ll be using it exclusively with the DDS80, so I removed the U3 software from them using the Sandisk Cruzer Utility software and then reformatted them to FAT32 in one partition.
Well… the DDS80 won’t recognize the flashdrive at all. I loaded the thing with 30GB of mp3’s and ran the librarian software on it. It mounts with no difficulty on my PC laptop and also on my Mac desktop. But the DDS80 won’t mount the drive at all. I’m really bummed about that. I even tried plugging the USB drive into a powered hub, thinking that maybe the USB bus on the DDS80 was underpowered but that didn’t help either.
I have several 2GB and 8GB flashdrives (one is a 2GB Lexar, one is a 2GB Macally PowerLink and the other is a 2GB Sandisk) that work just fine in the DDS80 but the 32GB Cruzer is not working.
That’s just the beginning of my issues with the DDS80 but am wondering if anyone has any ideas on this before I delve into the other issues I have.
